two nights in venice, three nights in Florence

We (two couples) will be in Venice for 2 nights before heading out on a cruise. Any recommendations for a mid-range hotel? We arrive mid day at Marco Polo and would prefer a more or less central location. Any other info or recommendations that the forum could provide would be welcome.

The same applies to Florence where we will travel when the cruise returns to Venice.

Many thanks.

Venice is small enough that you don't really have to worry about being centrally located for such a short stay. You can go anywhere from anywhere without much trouble at all. If your ship is going to leave from the large cruise port near Piazzale Roma, consider staying near P. Roma as it will simplify getting to the cruise ship. We've cruised out of Venice so let us know if you need information about getting to the big cruise port or from the airport to the hotel.

I always stay at Hotel Ala - right at the Giglio vaporetto stop which is half way between the Accademia and San Marco. Wonderful people, hearty breakfast, beautiful rooms. Could you switch the number of nights? 2 isn't enough for Venice!

Thanks so much for the advice, recommendations, and the website. I'm on it.

I know that two days is not enough, but that's all we've got. Two weeks total, with air and cruise booked. Our plan is two days in Venice pre-cruise and then three or four in Florence post-cruise.

Any recommendations for Florence?

hi grieve
what are your dates for hotel in venice and hotel in florence? are you looking for two hotel rooms, double beds and what is mid-range? after cruise you will take train to florence and do you want to stay within city center? are the two couples arriving together at marco polo airport? you can reserve a water taxi for about 110E (we split cost) or get a vaporetto or a bus from the airport, others will tell you how, it's less expensive. albergo marin or ca burcia hotels, across from train station and near grand canal down alley. the grand canal is very busy and noisy. we stayed next alleyway down and loved the area. away from crowds but few minutes walk and find all kinda ways to get lost (on adventure), wear comfy shoes. and enjoy yourselves walking the island.
aloha
PS look at pictures carefully, bathroom in room and not down hall, what floor and how many steps climbing up, checkin early or drop off bags without pushing around uneven walkways and bridges, (you should be okay with midday), some have free breakfast, read fine print, security/cleaning deposit.
