Two nights in Assisi?

Wow, I'm so glad I found this forum! I have a ton of Rick's books and all of his DVD's, so it's about time I find my way over here. Anyway, I'll be in Europe 2 months this year - all of May and June - and will be based for 6 weeks in Florence. I want to do a side trip to Assisi, but I'm wondering if it's worth the 2 nights that I have booked now, or if I should change it to one night and stay 1 night somewhere else. I thought about Cortona, but it looks a bit hard to get to...thought? any insight would be appreciated.

thanks!
Kristyn

I certainly wouldn't worry about 2 nights in Assisi if you've got 2 months to spend in Europe. Relax and enjoy.

I agree -- give yourself a relaxing visit to Assisi. Evenings there are lovely. In the daytime it's filled with tourists and groups of nuns making pilgrimages. But at night, it's so quiet and peaceful.

Enjoy Assisi! We spent 3 nights there - it is wonderfully peaceful in the evenings and we ate some wonderful meals there.

If you're taking it out of the six weeks in Florence, nothing wrong with it -- it's as good a place as any and a lot better than some.

If you're robbing it out of the other two weeks -- not on a bet.

Well during the 2 mos, I'll be taking a two week Italian language/culture class in Florence. The rest of the time will be traveling - Rome, Siena, Milan, Cinque Terre, Munich, Vienna, Prague, then into Denmark, Copenhagen, Greece, France. So pretty much making the rounds. BUT while based in Florence, I have the one weekend I dedicated to Assisi kind of up in the air. Two nights there as of now, but was wondering if I should try to fit another hill town in as well. Relaxing sounds wonderful, but prior to that weekend, I'll have 4 full days relaxing in Florence, so don't mind making another trip if needed.

Do the two nights in Assisi. You'll love it. It's a completely different experience from Florence. Take the RS self-guided tour of the town, from top to bottom. It's really enjoyable.

Remember 2 nights in Assisi is only ONE full day there. That's certainly not too long at all-- even for a shorter trip.

We are all envious. Have a great trip.
