I am considering working remotely from Italy sometime in 2023, staying for about two months. If I do this I’ll rent an apartment and bring my dog. There are a few older threads about this in which people have been discouraging about bringing their animal along. However, my situation is different—once I arrive I’d be staying in one place, and my dog is small enough to ride in the cabin (15 pounds) and a good traveler. I’ve looked into the logistics of taking a dog from the U.S. to Italy and there’s some paperwork and vet visits but nothing onerous.
So, what I’m looking for here is not a debate about whether or not to bring my dog—or any advice on travel, I’ve researched that— but rather tips and suggestions from anyone who has done anything like this. I’m particularly interested to know if there are specific recommendations for dog-friendly small cities, though my experience as a frequent traveler to Italy is that dogs are welcome pretty much everywhere. Some of the places I’m considering as a home base are Lucca, Verona, Pisa, or Bologna, all of which I’ve been to, or maybe Ferrara, Modena, Parma, or Piacenza, which I haven’t. Open to any other suggestions as well, or other regions. I’ve never been to Puglia and am wondering if Lecce could be a possibility. Thanks in advance!
