Two extra days between Rome & Venice

Hello, I'm taking my daughter to Italy for 10 days over the Christmas Holidays. She is 16 and it will be her first trip there. We fly into Rome, spend 4 nights and fly out of Venice, also spending four nights (2 of the days in Venice will be Christmas Eve/Christmas). I've reserved apartments in both cities. I don't want to "travel" the whole time on this trip, so am looking to spend our extra two nights in one place somewhere between Rome/Venice. We will be traveling by rail. Any suggestions as to what city we should visit and stay in, keeping in mind easy train access? I was going to skip Florence, as I have been there and was looking to see a new place on this trip. I was thinking more Siena or Orvieto. Any suggestions? I apologize if I'm cramming too many questions in, but if anyone has any tips or suggestions regarding Venice at Christmas, I'd love to hear them. Thank you so much for your time,
Jodi

It has to be Florence! There is so much to see there the beautiful Duomo, fabulous art (ahh, David!), the Ufuzzi Gallery and the Accademia, the Ponte Vecchio, gorgeous buildings, all walkable and wonderful, the perfect place to spend a couple of days between Rome and Venice. Another option for a unique experience is medeivel Siena. The Duomo there is spectacular, the museums excellent, and there is plenty to do for a couple of days. No matter where you go, you will have a great time. Jan

I agree that Florence or Siena would make great places for your daughter's first visit. What a great Christmas gift!

if you had 3 nights, I would say do Florence. Since you only have 2, I would vote for Siena. Siena can easily be given justice in 2 nights.
