When I google Montepulciano or Volterre there are a ton of hits regarding the filming of this movie in one town or the other? Does anyone know if that is happening and if so when? Or has it already happened. I am planning to visit those two towns in October and am hoping that I won't run into film crews, etc.

I believe it's completed, therefore, should not be an issue.

We arrived in Montepulciano in late May and the town was "closed" for the filming of Twilight. We got just inside the walls when a policeman at a barricade turned us back. There was no part of the town they would let us into, so we went and spent the day at Pienza instead (and loved it).
I assume if we'd had lodging inside town we could have gotten to our hotel, but since we were staying outside of town, they wouldn't let us in. It must cost a fortune to shut down such a town, depriving all the merchants of the day's tourist money. Seems like they could find a dozen smaller, cheaper towns with the same look to film in, but I guess they know what they're doing!

I'm such a Twilight fan...wish I could have been in Italy at the time of the filming earlier this year.
You won't have to worry about filming. They have completed it for New Moon and from what I know, they are back in Vancouver to start Eclipse. New Moon has gone to post production as it comes to the theater November 20 this year.
Go, enjoy Montepulciano. They didn't film in Volterra, even though that's where the story is supposed to have taken place!

Yup, it's in post production. There's the off chance that they may go back to do some pick up shots, but do to cost they'll try to avoid that if at all possible.
