Tutor system active?

Only threads I can find on this are old - back in 2017 or 2018 Tutor was temporarily disabled due to some sort of a patent issue. From what I can tell, it was turned back on around 2019.

My question is if it’s actually active now. We drove from Rome to Naples recently (June 2021) and lots of drivers seemed to blaze through well above the limit. I went around 130 to be on the safe side, but was definitely curious if it’s back up and running. We’re going to do another run south in a few days.

Anybody know?

This is the list of highway sections controlled by the "tutor" system: https://www.poliziadistato.it/statics/11/elenco-tratti-controllati-tutor-sicve-21.12.2020.pdf , updated at the end of 2020 even if the Highway Police says that there are 10 more branches under control since June 2021 https://www.poliziadistato.it/articolo/tutor .

As far as I know the tutor system isn't always on, but are controlled only few sections per time, so there are people who go faster. Or maybe they know very well where tutor is working and where isn't.
Take even in mind that the speed measured by the car is usually some Km/h higher than the real speed and there is a 5% of tolerance on the tutor system. So if you read 130 Km/h probably you are going at 120Km/h and you can be fined if the average is higher than 137 Km/h (that means probably 150 on the car meter).
Anyway: like you I go at 130 Km/h and I never been fined. ;-)

Thanks! In past years I enjoyed the Italian cat/mouse game of speeding for a little bit and then slowing down once you spotted the camera. I guess those days are coming to an end.

Every visit to Italy I’ve gotten a ticket of some sort (parking, ZTL, actually no speeding yet), at this point I’m resigned to my fate. The last time I literally parked fresh off a flight to go inside and get change for the parking, came out to a ticket. Bravo Italy, you win!

For speed tickets you should explore Emilia-Romagna. The area around Maranello is plenty of fixed and mobile speed-traps, but even the provinces of Parma and Piacenza. Don't talking of the wide urban roads with three lines and 50Km/h of limit...

Seriously again, now along highways people is slower than in the past (means 10/20 years ago) and very few ones drive really fast. The most drive at a pace around 120/140 Km/h, so the traffic is usually quite regular.
