Seven nights in Tuscany with 12 year old tween girls! Staying in an agritourism farm close-ish to Pienza/Castelmuzio.
We're going to do lots of hanging out: swimming in the pool, visiting farm animals, a day in Siena. I was also thinking hot springs. Any can't-miss recommendations?
Cooking classes?
Get a rental car. The roads in South Tuscany and Umbria are well paved if a little crooked and hilly. But the directions between towns are well marked. They're not at all difficult to drive.
We last were a little northwest of Siena--outside San Gimignano. We also enjoyed spending 1/2 day in Volterra. We turned our rental car in across the parking lot from the Orvieto train station @ Hertz and took the just over 1 hr. train ride into Rome Termini.
Our grandkids loved climbing the towers in San Gimignano.
