In June my two daughters, their families, and me (grandma) will be in a villa just south of Siena for a week before going to Rome. My four grandchildren are ages 6, 7, 7, and 8yrs. Any thoughts on outings that might capture them...caves, catacombs, other? We have plenty to do in Rome but need some Tuscany ideas. They will take a cooking class at Spannocchia which is where we are staying. I would love some creative ideas. Thanks.
Here's a pretty good Events calendar http://www.siena-agriturismo.it/siena_eventi.htm#giu1
In June it lists a Luna Park (amusement park) at the Medici Fortress (Fortezza Medicea) Facebook page: https://it-it.facebook.com/lunaparksienafortezzamedicea/
We took our grandkids to the Monster Park in Bomarzo, it was fun. Get a villa with a pool, even thought the water will likely be cold they will still jump in. You might find a truffle expedition with dogs. That would entertain the youngsters. Lastly, we went to the beach in Viareggio and jumped into the Med for a swim, kids loved it. Ours were 5, 8,8, and 8.
I agree with Gordon, the Monster park was a great stop with my granddaughter. Lots of room to run and explore. I'd do this on your way to Rome.

Viareggio is a nice liberty style beach town. It combines well with either Pisa or Lucca (bike rides on the town wall).

For caves, try Orvieto.

And... if you're into water, this is a lot of fun.

Thanks for these suggestions. Are there catacombs near Siena? We may have to see those while in Rome.
No catacombs, but underground passages.
