Wanting to take a day excursion from Florence to experience wine and food in Tuscany. The issue is, should we pre-book an excursion now or wait till we get to Florence in October?
Also, if anyone has any good recommendations on Wine and Food day trip experiences from Florence I would love to hear your recommendations.

We had a great tour in 2014 with Tuscan Trails. I just checked TripAdvisor and the company continues to get rave reviews.
I would definitely book ahead - no matter what company you choose.
Count me jealous that you will visit Tuscany during vendemmia. I can recommend Tours by Roberto (toursbyroberto.com) having enjoyed the "Montalcino Immersion" tour last month which includes an a.m. pick-up in Florence, comfortable van ride (road side stop on the way to, for pics) and 3 stops; town of Montalcino and 2 wineries, lunch (additional cost) was at the second winery. Terrific amount of information, delicious tastings, fascinating tour of inner workings of each different winery and lunch was hands-down fantastico. Wine, grappa, olive oil available for purchase between the operations we visited. Our guide kindly dropped us back in Florence 4pm-ish nearer our hotel (not our pick-up spot). Maximum 8 people per tour with this company; our group was small with only 3 but this made it feel even more customized for our enjoyment and interacting with our guide and the vintners was extensive. I think prebooking is the way to go. Have a great Tuscan adventure!
I cannot say enough about Castillo de Verrazzano!! We reserved online and paid once we got there. The food was amazing and the wine was plentiful. We rented a car and drove ourselves but others we met there took a personal transfer from Florence.
Also, there was a vespa tour that left out of Florence with Walk About Tours that was so much fun. My husband said of all the things we did this was his favorite. If not sure about the vespa, they also had little Volkswagen beetles that some where driving. The views were amazing, the pictures were beautiful and most of all the wine and the food was great.
