Have never been to Italy during the holidays. Wondering whether going right around Easter will negatively impact my trip. Is transportation affected? Are there sight closures, etc.? I already checked the concert hall/ opera schedules and saw largely empty schedules for those weeks (that was actually when it hit me - EASTER).

Usually Easter week is quite crowded. Remember that Monday after Easter is a big family holiday and almost everything comes to a standstill.
As for concert hall/opera schedules, check again when you are closer to the date. Most opera houses and concert halls experience great difficulties due to reduced government funding and have still to publish their calendars.
