Hi, we are staying three nights in Florence. We will then get a car to drive thru Tuscany and Umbria for three nights to make our way to Sorrento.
The plan is to stay one night in Tuscany (a Saturday night) and then head to Orvieto for two night and then on to Sorrento.
Can anyone recommend where to stay in Tuscany. I am traveling with three others that have never been to Italy and I am trying to show them as much as possible. Any ideas?

Perhaps only one night in Orvieto.
Sightsee in the morning and drive in the afternoon.
Day 1 Florence to Siena
Day 2 San Gimignano then on to Orvieto
Day 3 Tivoli (on the outskirts of Rome)
Day 4 Pompeii then on to Sorrento

I agree that one night in Orvieto is sufficient. Montepulciano is a wonderful town and great base for Tuscany and not far off the auto strada, but if you have a car your options are endless. What are the interests of the group? Are you looking for an agriturismo experience or a hilltop hotel?

Arezzo is a good place for a group with various interests. I would leave Orvieto at two nights, oerhaps daytrip to AssIsi or Todi from there.
