Tuscany trip

Hello all,

I am planning a trip to Tuscany the end of the summer to stay in a rural area outside of Pienza. Thinking I will fly into Rome, train to Orvieto, get a rental car there after a couple of days, then return the car to Orvieto at the end of the week stay near Pienza and train back to Rome from Orvieto. Looks like it's only Hertz at Orvieto location. Any thoughts, experience, feedback on this plan?

Thanks!

That's a great plan.
Yes Hertz is the only agency in Orvieto. Check their open/closed hours/days.

We just spent time in both Orvieto and Pienza, loved both.

Car rental rates are extremely high this year so do check on that and only get the car for the number of days you really need!

We always book our cars with www.AutoEurope.com. I think they have started using Hertz in Orvieto again.
Be sure you read up on driving in Italy and get your IDP.
There are many discussions here on those topics- do a search, you'll find plenty of info

Thanks Christine. Looked at their website today and said nothing for Orvieto. I'll try to call.

If they don’t offer Orvieto, then Chiusi works
Short train ride from Orvieto and agencies are near station

Chiusi is closer to Pienza.
Europcar and Avis-Budget in Chiusi are aperti (open)
Hertz in Chiusi is chiuso (closed) permanently.
Orvieto is more to the south. Hertz is open in Orvieto.

Autoeurope stopped using Hertz in Orvieto because of complaints; do not list Avis in Chiusi, 2 blocks from the station, but Europcar at 400 meters.
