Tuscany travel after tour

My friend and I are doing the heart of Italy tour April 22-30. We are thinking of taking the train to Orvieto and stopping at Siena on the way back to Florence, or we could do the other way around. I have reserved a room back in Florence for Tuesday night before our flight home Wednesday morning. Does anyone have a great recommendation for where to stay in Orvieto and will it be a problem traveling on Sunday May 1st which is their Labor Day holiday?
Thank you and I am so looking forward to traveling again!

Both towns are great choices and delightful in the evening when many tourists have departed
I would pick one and stay 2 nights rather than moving. Your tour is already short and fast paced.

Trains on May 1 shouldn’t be much different than on a non holiday Sunday
( we are traveling by train on that day as well)
You can look at Sunday schedules now, just pick a Sunday in next few months, I don’t think all trains are loaded for May 1 yet

Orvieto might be the easiest -transportation wise

In Orvieto 2 months ago, we stayed at the Hotel Corso, which is recommended by Rick Steves Arriving at the train station, which is downhill from the hilltown, you ride a funicular to the top, where a frequent shuttle bus takes people into the center of town. The hotel was close enough to the upper funicular that we didn’t bother with the shuttle, and just wheeled our suitcases to the hotel. Best showers that whole trip in Italy. On checkout morning, they let us stash our bags until we were ready to leave town later that afternoon, to catch the funicular and train on to Rome.
