Tuscany to the Amalfi Coast--Suggestions?

We (2) are spending two weeks in Tuscany (with a rental car) and then going to the Amalfi Coast (Praiano) for two weeks. We do not want to drive on the Amalfi Coast so plan on turning in the car in Sorrento and taking the bus on. How does that sound? Also, want to work in Pompeii at some point. What would be best way to accomplish that? Lastly, need suggestions for getting back to Rome for our flight out. Will appreciate any comments.

You can either take the SITA bus from Sorrento to Praiano or you can take the ferry to Amalfi and the SITA bus back to Praiano.

For getting back to Rome from Sorrento, it will take 3hrs to get to Fiumicino by public transportation. If you spend your last night in Sorrento and you have an early flight, you won't make it unless you take an expensive private car very early in the morning before the sun comes up.

This only attempts to answer, or discuss, one of your several questions: the one in which you say "want to work in Pompeii at some point. What would be best way to accomplish that?"Do you mean you want to seek employment in Italy?? If so, it's not possible to legally work in Italy if you're a US citizen and don't have a work visa.

Kent, very funny. Suppose it's a southern thing, but of course I want suggestions on the best means of transportation to Pompeii at some point during our visit and from what point.

You were joking about wanting to obtain employment in Pompeii? (I hope so, as it won't be possible, the visa problem plus most of the businesses there ceased operation, suddenly, some time ago)

Most people on this forum, who are already planning on going to Sorrento, wait until they get to Sorrento and then take the Circumvesuviana train from Sorrento to Pompeii. How to do this is described in detail in Rick's book Italy or in other posts on this forum, which you can find by going here and following the search instructions.

We stayed in Priano but had a car. Stayed at the hotel Margharita. Nice place. A bus left for positano from right in front of the hotel. We took the ferry to Capri from there.

Only negative is that it's probably alot easier to get transportation from Positano or sorrento. But we like Priano
