Tuscany Scooter rentals

What has the experience been with rental scooters in Tuscany? Would anticipate using one to see the more remote parts of the area where we are staying. Have motorcycle experience, so the riding itself is not a concern. More interested in the traffic, road conditions, and the Italian drivers.

As an experienced motorcycle rider, Tuscany would be a fun ride. We often took our motorino north and enjoyed "cruising." That said, riding a scooter will be far different than in the US or UK. Rules simply do not apply. Out in Tuscany, the roads are primarily 2-lane, unmarked, and winding. Your greatest challenge might be other motorcycle riders. The high-powered bikes love to weave in and out on the Tuscan hills, often cutting blind corners into your lane. The motorino drivers... well, they're just unpredictable! If you have a current license, you might rent a motorcyle rather than a scooter. A 125cc is the largest you can rent without a motorcycle license in Italy and having more power can get you out of trouble quicker! Stay out of Florence, Pisa, and the larger cities in Italy and scooter riding can be fun. We drove ours all over Tuscany, Umbria, Lazio, and even took it on the ferry to Sardinia! But in the cities, it's an entirely different ballgame. On this trip to Lake Bracciano, see the video in the post. This is my wife driving and me filming. The first 40 seconds will give you an idea of the roads in Tuscany - although they are far more curvy than this. But stay out of the cities, it's different... as the videos in this post demonstrate. Be careful and enjoy!
