Hello everyone! Our 30 day tour of Italy will include plenty of coastal opportunities including 1 week on the Amalfi Coast and 4 days in the Cinque Terre. I am torn between spending 3 days in the Italian Lake area or 3 days in the Tuscany region. I have 1 day mapped out for a bike/wine tour in Fiesole (leaving from Florence), but after doing some more research I have discovered that most people say that Siena is not to be missed and spending a bit more time in the countryside is a definite treat. Just curious if anyone has ideas on which area would definitely merit more time devoted to it on this trip. And where exactly would be a good "home base" to explore either region for those 3 days. Thanks!
We'll be traveling from mid-September to mid-October.
Really hard decision. We spent 3 days at Lake Como mid September a couple of years ago and had glorious weather. Just loved it. Have just come back from 6 days in Tuscany with 3 days in Siena and loved that too. For me I'd just toss a coin to decide. Both are quite different obviously so it just comes down to what sights etc appeal. Also the ease for you to get to either will probably be a factor. Personally I don't think you can go wrong with what ever you decide.
I would vote for Tuscany seeing as you will already be spending alot of time on the water. For a home base I would suggest an agroturismo near Siena or Pienza and then day trip to the various hilltowns.
