Hi....We are two couples planning 3 weeks in Tuscany. We will fly into Rome and then go to the Montepulciano area, then Florence and then somewhere along the coast. We are planning to have a car after our first stop, but are wondering what towns would be good home bases for each week. We do plan to stay close to Florence for the middle week, so I guess we just need ideas for the other areas. thanks so much! Any recommendations for places to stay are welcome! We would be happy to have a place with a kitchen so that we can make some of our own meals with the fabulous food we find!

There's a very nice agriturismo just outside of Montepulciano, Poggio Etrusco. Super location for touring the Val d'Orcia to Montalcino, Pienza, etc.
You might look at the Maremma, Tuscany's coast, around Capalbio or Porto Santo Stefano. PSS reminds me of the Cinque Terre without the crowds. You should have a car for the Maremma as well as Montepulciano. Maybe reorder your trip so Florence (no car) is either first or last.
