We had planned to stay in Florence after a conference in Rome, but our arrival date is the date of a large festival and a lot of hotel rooms are sold out. A friend suggested Viareggio or Lucca as quieter, quaint alternatives to Florence. Any experience with stays of 4-5 days in these cities? We would take day trips to Florence, Pisa.
