Tuscany in January

We are traveling to Tuscany in january and I am wondering what to expect that time of year. I'm not so concerned with weather, cold is fine with us, but more about things being closed in the smaller hill towns that we love.

We were in Tuscany the end of Jan. and first week of Feb. in 2008. We did find a few of the restaurants closed but then we'd just choose the next one on our list. We had wonderful meals the whole time we were there so yes, some will be closed but it isn't enough to make it a problem. We enjoyed being there that time of year - less tourists, no parking problems, no waiting for tables and the hotels are cheaper.

Tara - Bobbi is spot on in her comments - You will have a super time. If you're looking for a great place to stay, I would suggest Casolare di Libbiano, a fabulous B&B just three miles outside of San Gimignano and therefore close to Volterra, Siena, and the rest of the Tuscan countryside. Berta and her husband Andrea will take very good care of you. Here's the website if you want to take a look at it.
Ciao, Greg
