Tuscany ideas please?

We are travelling to Tuscany later this year for a short 5 night trip and are now just starting to plan. We fly into Pisa although not bothered about seeing Pisa, arriving about midday. We want to take in Lucca, Florence and Sienna and one idea was that we travel directly to Lucca from the airport and have half a day and one night there, then travel to Florence for 2 nights and then Sienna for the final 2.
My questions:
Is this the best plan?
How best to travel between each place?
How long is the journey back from Sienna to Pisa airport?
Ideas for places to stay?
Ideas for places to visit when arriving at Sienna, ie wine trips etc?

Anything else that might be helpful.

Many thanks

You're going to see the leaning tower right? It really is a sight to behold, even if you just do a quick stop for a pic

If I were planning, I'd do it just as you have it. You'll have to be efficient to see everything. I've rented a car in Tuscany before and it went ok in the countryside, but it's hellish in the cities. It may be just as quick and less stressful for you to use a train. Those are fairly quick jaunts.

Buon viaggio. I'm headed there in July myself.

Florence merits more time than you've allotted to it. With so few days, I recommend that you skip Siena, or do it as a day trip from Florence. We've been there twice, and my reaction is lukewarm compared to many of the other wonderful places in Tuscany. Eliminating a move saves those hours for sight-seeing. Also, I believe that getting back to Pisa from Florence is easier and faster than from Siena. If you haven't bought your tickets yet, you should check into returning from the Florence airport. Anything like a wine trip that you can do from Siena, you could just as easily do from Florence.

Oh, please see the leaning tower and the Duomo and Baptistry. We were just there in October and we just loved the architecture of those buildings. Glad we didn't miss it.

I would stay in Siena between Lucca and Florence, because it is easy to get to the airport from Florence. You will be able to do this trip by train and/or bus.

Look for free concerts in Lucca, walk or bike the walls, just stroll around. Have lunch or dinner at Oste di Lucca (bistecca Fiorentina for 2, great appetizers and first courses).

In Florence I love Hosteria di Ganino.
