Tuscany - towns for elderly

Hello - I'm traveling to Tuscany with elderly parents and small children. They are all very mobile but wouldn't be able to hike up large/long hills to reach cities in Tuscany.

Does anyone have suggestions for cities to explore in Tuscany that are easy for aging parents to navigate? Or that may offer parking at the top of the city, funicular, escalators, etc? We are staying near Montisi. Would love any and all suggestions!

There are elevators in Ortisei. If you take away the word “ hill towns” from your title you’ll get more replies. Look at Bevagna in Umbria, flat, not far east of Tuscany.
In Chianti, mostly flat towns- Castellina, Radda, Panzano, Greve, outside of Chianti: Pienza, Lucca. Drive up to top of Cortona.

Orvieto, while not quite in Tuscany, might fit the bill. You take a funicular up, and then is a small charming town, and mostly flat to walk around. My other thought is Lucca. Not a hill town, but very charming. It is a walled small city and I always think of it for kids because you can rent bikes and ride around on the wall. Again it is flat for walking through town.

We were in Lucca for 3 days/2nights in June a few years ago and we found it uncomfortably hot during the day. All those buildings soaking up the sun and radiating it back on people walking around. Very little shade . We found it hard to cross open areas.

I think a hilltop town with narrower winding streets and a chance for a cooling breeze would be more enjoyable that flat Luca baking in the sun.

Thanks so much for the suggestions! And yes, doesn't have to be hill towns - any great places to visit with small kids and 70yo grandparents appreciated!

Many hill towns in Tuscany and Umbria have escalators to reach the top. For example, Arezzo, Perugia, Todi, Spoleto, Siena
