Tuscany help

My husband and I are planning to spend 2 weeks in Italy in Sept 2012. We want to spend a week in Tuscany, 2-3 days in CT, and 2-3 days in Venice. I am having a hard time deciding which area in Tuscany to use as our base. We plan to rent a car for that week. We are interested in wine tasting, good food, beautiful scenery, and just enjoying Italian life. We're really undecided as to whether we want an agriturismo or a small B&B or hotel. I welcome all suggestions!

We stayed at Agriturismo Marciano in Siena and absolutely loved it. They make wine and olive oil. It is in a location that makes it easy to do day trips to hill towns. And if you love food and wine, you HAVE to participate in their optional dinners. The food is all fresh and delicious, and they pair a different one of their wines with each course. Of course breakfast is included. You can check out their website and read all about them on Trip Advisor. I can't wait to return there some day!

Thanks!
I forgot about the slow travel website. I used it 6 years ago when planning our first trip to Italy. I think I would really like to stay in a little B&B in one of the small towns, so that we can walk to restaurants etc. My only concern is the parking issues. I was considering Lucca but I would like to be more central. I also thought about breaking it up into 3 nights in one area, and 3 nights in another, but I hate to move around that much.

I'm not sure exactly which hillowns you want to visit, but we stayed outside of Siena and thought it was a great location for where we wanted to go. We drove to Orvieto, Pienza, Montepulciano, San Galgano ruins, and of course Siena. We had already visited San Gimignano and Volterra on a previous trip, but those would be reasonably reached also. We stayed in a new apartment called Residence Arriana - and it was very nice, well apointed, full kitchen, super helpful staff, generous breakfast, etc. We found it on booking.com. It won't have the Italian charm of a historic place - so if that is important to you, this isn't the right place. It is modern and efficient. I also recommend a GPS for car travel in this area. Have a great trip!
