Tuscany/Florence lodging

We will arrive by car rental in the Tuscany area on a Sunday and hope to travel in to Florence for a day trip on Tuesday. Need help in finding a place to stay that lets us enjoy the countryside but not too difficult to travel into Florence for one day.
We will be flying out of Pisa on Wednesday. Budget is very flexible. Is Buonconvento, Italy a possibility for our needs?

It's really up to you and the possibilities are infinite. Buonconvento is at least 90 minutes south of Florence via Superstrada FI-SI (then the via Cassia SS-2).
You'll be in Tuscany for 2 full days only and flying out of Pisa on Wed. It really depends which towns you want to be in those two days besides Florence and Pisa. Buonconvento is kind of out of the way from both Florence and Pisa. Unless you have a reason to be in that area I'd stay closer to the cities/areas that you want to visit. Also closer to the freeways for fast travel between places. Look at a Google map, decide what you want to include in your itinerary (maybe consult Rick Steve's books) then come back to the forum and we can suggest a few areas/towns to consider for your night stays.

I looked at maps but since I have never been to Italy can't choose which is best. Maybe this is not a wise decision to stay outside of Florence?? I would just like to enjoy the countryside since I will have been in Rome for 4 days.
