We are visiting Castello Di Verrazzano from 11-2, after that which would be the best route to see other towns in the area. I looked on a map and its seems that Greve would be the next logical place. We are not interested in wine tasting, just walking around and exploring. We will have a car. Thank you for any input.
You'll be coming and going from Montecatini, right? I had San Miniato on my agenda for a trip that was cancelled--looks like a pleasant town.
Once you are done at the Castello di Verrazzano drive back through their long driveway to the main highway, which is the Via Chiantigiana (SR 222). Turn right toward Greve. If you want and have time you can also take a look at the small hamlet of Montefioralle near it. Then proceed on the SR 222 toward Siena. Along the way you can see Panzano and Castellina. By the time you reach Castellina you are probably ready to drive back.. I would take the Strada Provinciale SP101 toward San Donato in Poggio. It’s a pretty village and it has a great restaurant if you are in for dinner, it’s called Ristorante La Toppa (the patch). After dinner from San Donato drive a bit further on the SP 101 and get on the freeway Siena Firenze. Time to drive home.
Roberto, thank you so much! This is exactly what I was looking for.
I've done what Roberto suggests and agree that would be a nice trip.
Greve has not ZTL, but the best place to park is in the public lot just off the main square. Castellina has a ZTL, but it is well marked.
Thanks Doug!
