I have a small list of restaurants and taverns my wife and I will plan to visit during our four-night stay in Cortona, and I was wondering about any favorite places you all have for dinner in towns within reasonable driving distance, such as Arezzo, Chiusi or Montepulciano. I figure since some decent Tuscan wine may be consumed, it would be best to keep the car trip limited to nearby towns. Grazie!
Do I need to sign a waiver of liability before getting the suggestions? (Kidding!). The car rental is in my wife's name. I wasn't inferring drunk driving would be in play, I just wanted to get some restaurant ideas which were a hop, skip and a jump from Cortona. Plus we didn't want to drive far.
I'll second Osteria del Teatro, high quality food at reasonable prices...and Kent is right, there are a number of really good choices in town.

We loved La Grotta, it was outstanding and plan to go back when we visit the area in Sept.

Kent and Others,
Thanks so much. I actually have reservations at Il Falconiere....it's going to be our big splurge of the trip. Fufluns and Teatro are definitely on our dinner list, because Rick recommends them and also who can resist a tavern with the name of "Fufluns." Just curious: how far is Chiusi from Cortona?
Kent, you're 100% right, and 45 minutes to drive somewhere for dinner and back is a bit much. I was also contemplating a drive for dinner to Montefollonico, where there was a restaurant in town a friend raved about called "La Chiusa." 35 km each way, for that one. Something tells me dinner four nights in a row in Cortona after long day-trips will not make me feel deprived.
