We will be in Siena for four nights in late May. As we will not have a car, I want to book a day tour (small group) with wine tasting. Tuscan Escapes seems very appealing but pricey - great reviews on TripAdvisor. My Tours is much more affordable. Has anyone taken these or other tours? I don't want to cheap out on a once in a lifetime experience but I don't want to over-pay either!
Hi Jane, Have you looked at Walks of Italy? Although we didn't use them in Tuscany, we did use them in Rome and in Pompeii. Both wonderful tours. Have fun!
R.S. recommends Tours By Roberto and we took a combo wine/history/scenery tour with hi. In Oct 2010. Not cheap but worth every euro. Roberto is very smart, engaging, and his groups are limited to 8, so plenty of opportunity to interact, ask questions. He picks you up at your lodgings in Siena.
Thanks. I'm thinking of reserving with Roberto. Which tour did you do? I'm between Chianti and Brunello.
We did the combo tour of wine (1 cantina), history, and scenery. It was a nice balanced day, with a fabulous lunch as well.
Is there any way you could rent a car for a couple of days? All the little backroads are fascinating to explore by car.
We took a day last fall visiting vineyards in Chianti on the slow day in Tuscany tour and had a really good time. It went from Florence but if I remember rightly there was some talk of tours leaving from Siena also. Jane- I couldn't see any prices on the Tuscan Escapes site, how expensive were they?
Thanks for your responses everyone. Steve, Tuscan Escapes joinable tours are 135-145 Euro. The evening tour looks great.
