What is your opinion on the best time to visit Tuscany & CT? We can go early May or early Sept. We've been to CT before and enjoy swimming and hiking. Is May to cool to take a dip? Which month is the least crowded & best chance of nice weather? We plan to spend 2 weeks. Thank you.

We were there in late May last year and the weather was just beautiful. A little wind causing rough seas for the ferry (which did not run for two days) but otherwise, really nice. Not sure about September.
As for swimming, Brrrrrr. However, CLICK HERE for a previous thread on this subject. Some people really like it. Since you've been to the CT, you already know that Monterosso has the much nicer beach.

It was nice in October. I think it will be good in either May or Sept. Probably greener in May.

Either time is excellant.
We've been in late April 2004 and it was warm in the day and cool at night (light jacket). No one was swimming, but flowers were in full bloom. No rain during our 3 days.
We went in early Sept. 2006 and it was warm to hot in the day and cooled off nicely at night. Everyone was sunbathing and swimming. Turns out that school doesn't start until the 2nd week of Sept. so we were there for the last week of summer recess. Again, no rain during our 3 days.
At night, everyone seems to get on a train. Thus, no problem getting into restaurants.
