My husband and I are planning a November trip to Florence, and would like to avoid taking a tour bus, preferring to visit a nearby Tuscany Chianti vineyard/winery on our own. Can you advise us if there is a metro bus leaving from Florence that stops at a charming Chianti vineyard/winery or two where we can admire the passing Tuscan countryside en route? Grazie.
Catherine, in May of this year I took a bus from the main bus station in Florence to Greve in Chianti and then enjoyed an afternoon winery tour & lunch at the Verrazzano winery. Their webpage is: www.verrazzano.com. Somewhere in the website are directions for the bus. I had a fabulous time. One caveat is that it is a long walk up from the main roadway to the Castle. However, their directions indicated you could ask for them to pick you up.
Thank you so much! We checked out the website and it looks fabulous! May your kindness be returned to you the next time you travel!
Catherine: I must update my response to you since when I looked again at the webpage about directions, there seems to be no indication there that the winery will pick you up at the bottom of the hill. When I confirmed my reservation for the class, they did say I could ask for a ride up the hill. When I arrived for my tour&Lunch, another couple was there at the shop at the same time and they offered me a ride. It was a fabulous tour and lunch but do be aware of the possibility that you may have to walk up the hill. Beautiful scenery along the way. :)
Catherine, we stayed at a Hotel in Florence where in the lobby there were brochures on visiting wineries. They arranged our tickets and the bus stop was right around the corner from our hotel, it was the Veranzanno Vineyard and the bus took us right to their front door. We had a tour of the wine cellars and a small meal with complimentary wine. We purchased their olive oil and wine which I must say I still use on very special occasions. The bus ride was absolutely beautiful with the hills of Tuscany all around us. Enjoy.
