Tuscany

We are 4 high school friends (now in our 50's) travelling to Italy in July. We will be going to Riviera for 4 nights and then to Tuscany. We want to know where it would be best to stay to visit San Gimignano, a nice winery, shopping, and active nightlife. We also want to see Siena and thought of going to Lajatico. Any suggestions?

You'd do best to stay in Florence, and take a 1 hr. bus trip down to San Gimignano. The Tuscan hill towns are pretty quiet after the tourists leave. Florence is the most lively city in the region.
Siena is also best seen by bus trip from Florence (not by train.)
