We are travelling to Tuscany in Feb, we will be staying for 6 nights, will be getting a car and travelling each day. Anybody stay at a place wether a farmhouse or village that was just divine? (Ie views, good position for day trips, maybe English speaking staff/hosts?)
We stayed at Agriturismo Marciano, just outside (but near enough) Siena, and took day trips (San Gimignano, Pienza, etc.)and of course visited Siena as well.
Prefectly situated, beautiful, free on site parking, and be sure to dine there at least one evening (extra cost, worth every penny). Breakfast included.
English spoken, greeted with a glass of wine!
Jim, I guess you are new here and don't know that you should not recommend Agriturismo Marciano in public. Never! We who love it don't want it to get overrun. You are forgiven this time. :-) From now on, mums the word!!
Rachael, I just sent you a Private Message recommending Agriturismo Marciano.
my bad.
thanks for the heads up, and i hope i didn't spoil it for anyone!

It is rated # 1 on TripAdvisor so I do not think there is any keeping it a secret.
We stayed at an agriturismo outside Pienza called Fonte Bertusi (from the RS book) and the views were amazing from their property of the Tuscan hillside. We had a small bedroom window, I took a pic of the view and people said it looked like a painting. It's not super fancy (the structures are several hundred yers old, but theyve been remodeled), they are clean and they offer a breakfast. We liked the more central location, as we were able to get to most towns within an hour.
Any other recommendations for Tuscany near Siena, need a quad or family room.
Another vote for Agriturismo Marciano (sorry Andrea!!). You absolutely can't go wrong if you stay there! Read the Trip Advisor reviews and look at their web-site. The location is perfect and you can easily take a taxi into walled Siena when you want but you'll feel like you're out in the country when you're at the agriturismo. Have a great trip!
