Looking for some fun, not too intense bike trips for my daughter and I. Names of companies would be great! Right now, we were planning on bypassing Florence on our way from Cinque Terre and then head towards Siena, Orvieto, etc. But, it seems like all of the tour companies leave from Florence. So, we we may spend one night in Florence to catch the tour the next day. Any thoughts on riding bus or train from Florence to Siena late afternoon and then finding a family-friendly spot to stay in Siena. From Siena, we have a day where we'd be making our way to Rome so any thoughts on that too would be appreciated. We will not have a car but rely upon public transportation. Thanks!
i enjoyed a florence bike tour and gelato tasting, offered by italy on a budget tours. Fun and easy riding in florence. Note - they did give the wrong meeting spot, but we walked a few blocks to the bike office and made it to our tour in time. if you choose this, maybe call and confirm or stop by in advance.
Also did the one day bike tour in tuscany with tuscany bike tours, which departs from Florence. Note - this is a long but mostly easy ride, until the end where there is a large hill to climb. However, the company brings a van to collect those who do not want to make or cannot complete the ride up the hill (i opted to ride in the van along with most everyone else in my group). We had a small group of less than 10. Lunch was included and food was delicious and plentiful!
I've taken two bike tours in Rome - both from top bike rentals. The rome city bike tour was great but note rome is not flat so there will be some hills to climb. The bike tour ancient appian way, caracombs, and Roman countryside was fantastic but the terrian is more difficult than the city.
I am also following this in hopes of hearing some other good bike tours..
