Tuscany: Better to stay inside or outside city walls?

as a first timer on my honeymoon i have wavered back and forth between staying in a hotel or apartment in a popular city (Pienza, Montalcino, Montepulciano) or staying in an Agriturismo either just outside or far outside of the city.

right now we have the Politian Apartments booked for 5 nights in Montepulciano.

i am sure a good argument could be made for either, but i am curious what most suggest. if staying within the walls, i am sure the convenience of being able to explore town, grab a bottle of wine or some cheese at a local shop and retreat back to your room at night is quite nice.

thanks!

Up to you. But you will need a car either way for that area, therefore, if you stay in town, inquire about car access and parking availability for your accommodations, areas inside ancient city walls are generally forbidden to cars except for residents with permit.

Either would be good. We have stayed in the small towns of Tuscany. True that cars are parked outside the city walls but easily accessible. These towns are charming at night and you have options for dining. In an agritourismo, you will either eat there or drive to villages for evening meals. You cannot go wrong in Tuscany!!
