Tuscany

We are renting a villa near Florence in September, and then taking the following week to travel to other places. We would like to get back to Venice, and also to Cinque Terra. We would appreciate any advice on other spots to visit in that part of Tuscany.

Tom:
This is a big broad question and Rick Steves' book on Tuscany and Florence is a great place to start. I was in a similar state when planning our trip last year. I read Rick's advice then looked up more on the Internet. Slow Travel has some wonderful scenic drives laid out like this one http://www.slowtrav.com/italy/tuscany/monte_cetona.htm, that might inspire you. Make lists of what interests you, consult a map to see what is really possible each day. You can use Google Maps to estimate drive times, although your journeys will usually take longer. :-) There have been many queries about Tuscan itineraries on this board, too, so you might find searhcign the archives useful. The CT and Venice likewise: see Rick's books. He has a marvelous plan for how to spend your time in Venice.

Lake Como for a few days would be good.
