Tuscany and Umbria and my bad Knees

Are the sightseeing areas of Arezzo and Gubbio very hilly? My arthritic knees can walk on flat terrain and cobblestones for 4 hours but hills, mountains and numerous stairs are not for me. I'm not asking about a R.S. tour, just asking in general.
Thanks.

Gubbio is definitely hilly but has a series of escalators that take you to different levels. There are also some elevators. I think you would be able to avoid most stairs and steep climbs but it might not be flat enough. If you are staying overnight or on a tour, a helpful hotel, host, or guide could probably direct you to the escalators and elevators to the sites you want to visit.

The Duomo (Cathedral) of Arezzo and Il Prato (a park) are on top of the hill, Piazza Grande is also half way to the top of the hill, however the hill where Arezzo sits is not very tall or steep, so, walking from the train station (in the flat area) it is a gentle grade walking up along Corso Italia, Arezzo’s Main Street.

If you go by car you should park on Parcheggio Petri (Petri Parking lot) on the north side of the city wall at the bottom of the hill where the Duomo is. Walking from the parking lot to the top (Duomo) looks steep, but there are escalators to the top, so not much stair stepping either.

At Gubbio I usually park near the Roman Amphitheater. There is a large parking lot there. The walk up to the main square (Piazza Grande, where the Palazzo dei Priori is) is not too bad. I know that recently they opened up some escalators in Gubbio, but I’m not sure exactly where.
