We will be traveling with three other friends july 2014. We've rented a villa in Radda for a week and then my wife and I would like to spend 3-4 days on Capri as my replaced hips won't allow for too much up and down walking that our friends will do on Amalfi coast. Can we take our rental car to Capri, or should we return it prior to going there? Any other tips, general or specific would be most appreciated, it's our first trip to Italy.
No cars allowed in Capri except for residents. You can still rent one and drive to Naples or Sorrento to catch the boat from there, but the car will have to stay in the mainland. In that case the best plan would be to return your rental in Sorrento and take the boat. Or from Radda you could drive to some place along the train line (Florence, or Chiusi etc.), return the car, and go to Naples by train. Choose your best option.
