My husband and I are headed to Tuscany in September (yes, 2017). We have yet to make one reservation and are now scrambling to find something good. Any suggestions for places that may be a bit less popular but still great would be appreciated. Interested in agriturismo but could consider a hotel. Also, has anyone stayed at Alla Marina in Cinque Terra?
thanks!
Our family of 4 stayed at agriturismo IL Rosolaccio near San Gimignano and it was lovely. We had a 2 bedroom apartment. You can check it out at www.rosolaccio.com We were here in the summer and it has a nice pool. Would stay here again.
I'm sure you can find one in September.
Besides the famous websites like booking.com the following specialize in agriturismo facilities:
www.agriturismi.it
www.agriturismo.com (more websites also with the suffix .it and .net)
Be aware that some facilities, although they may seem conveniently located on a map, are actually very awkward to reach (long tedious curvy country road driving) which may make it inconvenient for day trips. So it is crucial that you plot the exact address on Google Maps and using google maps calculate driving times to the places you want to visit from that farm house.
What Roberto said! We stayed in a lovely agriturismo which looked to be right outside Orvieto -- but getting down the back roads followed by the unpaved one-lane track made us reconsider the idea of going back out.
Hi, Emily. First, we had a great, but brief stay at Alla Marina last month. Let me know what questions you have.
We also spent five blissful days at Terre di Nano, an upscale agriturismo between Montepulciano, Montichiello and Pienza. Not sure of availability but highly recommend. Other travelers we met had actually booked last minute through booking.com so that's always an option to search availability. I always prefer to book directly however. Good luck!
Emily,
Will you be driving? How long do you plan to stay? What are you interested in seeing? Tuscany is a pretty large area and recommendations would depend on where you are interested in visiting. Pretty much everywhere can be reached in a couple of hours, but if for instance you'd like to visit Lucca, I'd recommend staying in the north instead of near Montepulciano.
