Tuscany Agritorismos

Hi there. In continuation of my Italy trip planning for 2010, has anyone stayed at the Frattoria Voltrona near San Gimignano? I've seen many good reviews and only a couple with some minor negative points.
We want to explore Siena, Florence, Montalcino, Montepulciano and the Chianti region. We will have a rental car and will be in the region for about 6 days. Does this location seem like a good place to stay or can others be recommended? I love horses, which is one reason I was draw to this place. We definitely want to stay in an agriturismo. thanks!

Claire - For your consideration - I've taken people to this B&B - just outside of San Gimignano, and it is truly Wonderful - Close to Volterra, Siena, San Gimignano, and the Beautiful Tuscan Countryside. Berta and her husband Andrea are Great hosts. A Beautiful property - excellent meals if you so choose, and a great base of operations for your daily explorations

Hi - my wife and I are just back from Italy (Rome, Civita, Chianti region, Cinque Terre and Milan) on Sept 22. We stayed for the first time at an agritorimo named Fattoria Tregole in Castellina in Chianti for 6 nights. We had a great time. Edith was a fantastic host and we were able have two dinners (with all of the guests). We ate with people from Belgium, Australia, Germany and the US. Edith was a big help with directions. The Chianti and Super Tuscan they produce were great too.

We have stayed a few times at Il Poggio, just outside the tiny town of Celle sul Rigo in Tuscany. WE love it there. They also have horses and you can go on rides if you like. We always have a car when there.

Claire in June 2002 our family of 4 stayed in apt. Ginestra at agriturismo Il Rosolaccio which is located about 8 km outside of San G. It was lovely and very Tuscan feeling. They also have a beautiful pool. Check out their website at www.rosolaccio.com It is not far from Certaldo, 50 min. to Florence and 1 hr. to Pisa. We spent a week here and did daytrips around the region.
In 2006 we stayed at Agriturismo Metina a few km. from Montepulciano. We enjoyed our stay here but have heard that the owners are selling or have sold so don't know about it now. If you are ever looking for an agriturismo in the north near Verona and Lake Garda you need to check out Ca del Baldo which is located 30 km from Verona and 7 km from Lake Garda at the foothills of Mt. Baldo. It is just on the outskirts of a small village called Caprino Veronese. We stayed here for a wk. in 2007 in Apt. Il Fienile and loved it! It is run by a young couple, Roberta and Carlo. Their website is www.cadelbaldo.com It looks exactly like the pictures and it is beautiful. They have a stable with horses, etc.

Hi Claire - I just returned from a great trip to Italy and we stayed in Florence. One evening we had dinner at an agriturismo called Il Leccio which was incredible. The villa has been in the family since the 1600s and everywhere you looked there was something beautiful to see. We hope to go back and stay there on a future visit. Good luck in your search!

San Giminiano and the Chianti region in general is a really nice location from where you can easily explore Tuscany. If the Fattoria Voltrona has gotten these nice reviews at tripadvisor I'd definitely consider it as one of my top choices. This is one of the more affordable agriturismo mentioned here. The other ones are all well over 100 Euro per night.
