We are renting a house in Montisi this summer. We have some friends flying in to Florence and their flight arrives around 10:30 at night. They are looking for recommendations for a driver that could pick them up at the airport in Florence and transport them to our house in Montisi. Can you make recommendations or should they consider renting a car?
We will have a car so they really won't need one for the entire week.

Wow, that's a way to drive after stumbling out of the airport at 11:00pm.
If you want to do this they will definitely need to engage a point to point driver ahead of time because no taxi will tackle this drive at that hour. As for a rental car - if the office is even open - I would not recommend any plan that has them driving around in rural Tuscany at 1:00am after a flight.
Personally I would recommend they get a room and get a good night's sleep before doing any long haul transportation. If they stay overnight maybe you meet them the next day in Florence or someplace the train stops in between like Camuccia-Cortona and pick them up. If not then either a private driver or a rental car is the way to go but in the daylight would be my vote.

A driver for that distance at that time will be expensive. I think a hotel night would be less!
Would not recommend getting a car late at night and driving all that way in the dark
A taxi or private car for that distance and at night will cost at least 250 euro.
If you rent a car already you could go and pick them up.
