Tuscany

Hello,
I am traveling to Italy from 12/23-1/2. We are planning on staying in Rome 24,25,26, then hading to Tuscany 12/27, 28, 29, and heading back to Rome until we head home on 1/2. (we could only get airfare in and out of Rome). My question is where should we stay in Tuscany and is it hard and expensive to rent a car. We would like to stay in a bed and breakfast that gives us easy access to the various sites in the region.
Thank you,

Natasha

Hi Natasha - My favorite B&B in Tuscany is -
http://wwwcasolarelibbiano.it/
Owned by Berta and her husband Andrea it is a Beautiful property as you will see by checking out their website. It is just outside San Gimignano about 3 miles and very close to Sienna, Volterra, and Florence. They are great hosts and will treat you right,
A car is easy to rent - Hertz, Avis, or Auto Europa can take care of the rental situation. The driving in Tuscany is very easy - nothing to be worried about. If you have a GPS with european maps take it to make things easier. And, as Ken is always suggesting - properly - get an IDP(International Drivers Permit) at an AAA office - it goes in conjunction with your drivers license.

Enjoy your time in Tuscany, Greg

Hi Greg. Thank you for th einfo. Where do you suggest I rent the car. Florence? We are planning to take the train from Rome to Florence and then driving to the B&B. Does that make sense? or should we rent the car in Rome and drive to Tuscany? I hear car rentals are expensive and I just want to make sure we do this the easiest least expensive way.

Thanks again,

Natasha

P.S. We requested tickets for Midnight Mass at the Basilica. Have you ever done that? We were wondering it was worth it to wait in line?

I'm not Catholic either, nor am I religeous but Midnight Mass at St. Peters on Christmas Eve is a once in a lifetime experience. We have done it twice and you will never see St. Peters more beautiful, illuminated so well or such spectacular pomp and pageantry. Of course its worth it.

Natasha - My buddy Steve has a great idea - rent the car in Tuscany from AutoEuropa or even in Florence - It truly is an easy drive down to Tuscany But , if you feel more secure with less traffic getting out of the city, then get the car in Siena, for example. But I really can't say enough about Casolare di Libbiano - A Fabulous place , very centrally located - A second Honeymoon type of B&B - you would love it - I promise.
