Tuscany 1st week of March

Ciao everyone,
My husband and I are traveling to Tuscany for 8 nights, starting the 1st week of March. Our plan is to spend 2 nights in Florence and the remaining 6 nights in Tuscany. When in Tuscany we will spend 2 nights in Castiglione del Trinoro (so we can go to Civita di Bagnoregio and other southern towns).
For the other 4 nights I thought we could do 1 night in Orvieto, 2 nights near by Siena and maybe the last night in Florence or Lucca.
I found that many Agriturismos are closed until the end of March. I’m looking for recommendations about where to stay (I prefer an Agriturismo vs a hotel) and recommendations about restaurants.
Finally, are businesses closed during March? Or will I find plenty of options for shopping, lunch and others.
We decided to go on March for my birthday and because my husband has winter break.

Thanks in advance for the help!

That's a lot of moving about. Ideally, do two nights in Florence and the rest in one agriturismo in a fairly central location. You are trying to go from Lucca all the way down to Civita di Bagnoregio. IMO that's way too much in the time you have available.

Moving from one place to another is a major time suck. It easily eats up half a day or morefrom checking out to traveling to checking in. Speaking of traveling, you have said what mode of transportation you are planning to use.

Try Villa Mazzi in Montepulicano. I've stayed there twice and the hosts are delightful. Beautifully kept rooms and breathtaking views.

Thanks for the tips.
We are renting a car for the 6 days we will be in Tuscany. Lucca could be an option, but not sure if we will make it there. We want to find a nice place with nice views of Tuscany and have small trips to nearby towns.

It sounds like a wonderful trip! We did practically the same thing in December 2015. We stayed in an agriturismo just outside Greve for the entire time we stayed there, making day trips in our rental car. We actually took the bus into Florence.

We wanted to visit Lucca and Montepulciano, but just ran out of days. Use Google Maps to look up driving times. That will help you plan out your day trips. I'm thinking finding an agriturismo nearer Siena will work better for you than where we stayed.

Tuscany has many, many attractive towns. They are places where real people live and work at a variety of occupations, not just resort areas catering to tourists. So, yes, businesses are open in March.
You have planned for too much moving around. Do you actually have 8 nights or is one after a travel day? If so, that leaves you a single day in Florence. Not enough.

You can check on various sites like viamichelin for driving times. Then choose one or two bases from which to see nearby towns.
In my opinion, Civita is so insignificant it is hard to understand why you would devote any of your extremely limited time to it.
Your last night should be spent in the place from which you will depart.
