we have used rentvilas.com several times. never went wrong. sorry to say, you need to weed through what you are looking for but their search function is pretty user friendly.

Try VRBO. We've used VRBO a couple times, and often deal directly with the owner, instead of through a 3rd party, where you will pay more. If you find a place near a town you want to stay in that's booked, ask if they know of other rentals. That's how we found a farmhouse we rented outside of Cortona.
When we were looking for a place to rent for a week, we considered where it was situated, and what sites were within a 45 minute drive. We also wanted to be within a 5 minute drive to a town with restaurants, piazza, etc. Plot your options on google maps and then figure out where you want to do day trips to.
