Tuscan beaches

I am looking for advice on sand beach areas in Tuscany. We will be there for a few days the very end of April, so I know it's not exactly swimming weather, but to be able to stroll on a lovely sand beach on the Mediterranean would be great. (I am going to be in the CT just before.) I have read that the northern Tuscany beaches around Viareggio are polluted and the southern ones around Grosseto are more pristine. Is that true? Is that more likely when it is tourist season rather than in April or is it the water that is polluted? Can anyone give me some suggestions? Thanks so much!

Any feedback about Donoratico, San Vincenzo, Folonica, or Vada?

If you look at Google maps you can see a sattelite view of the area you are interested in. Search for Vernazza, Monterosso al Mare, or Viareggio - then move around and zoom in and out to see the different beaches.

You can tell the beaches people go to by the rows of chairs on the beach visible by sattelite. Zoom a little on Viareggio to see what I mean.

These are private areas where you rent a chair but there should be some open areas nearby.

Monterosso has the only real beach in Cinque Terra but that is Liguria rather than Tuscany.

I don't know about pollution. I tend to tour outside of tourist season so the beaches are mostly empty and the water too cold for more than a brief wade.

Thank you. That's helpful. I had zoomed in and was wondering what all those little rectangles were that were sitting in perfectly straight rows! We are looking for a place only for two nights, April 29-May 1. I'm wondering if beaches are even officially "open" at that time in terms of services. I'm also wondering if they're all pretty clean since there hasn't been any tourists around to clutter them yet... Any knowledge?

Based on my experience, the chairs won't be set up in April and it will be quiet. The weather could be anything from nice, warm and sunny to cool, breezy or rainy. It's kind of the luck of the draw.
