Turino, Italy

I'm planning to visit Turino, Italy in the fall of 2010. Does anyone have accommodation recommendations (or warnings)?

Torino is B O R I N G We spent a night there before heading to the Piedmont region.

It's basically a big city. Noisy. We found some Roman ruins (kind of a park ) in front of the church with the Shroud of Turin (of course, you can go into the church, but you know the shroud is only on display a few times a century)

Wanted to go up to the top of the Mole - but we were there on Monday, and it was closed. Walked the streets and ate some gelato...couldnt' wait to get out of town. Big mistake to think there was something interesting to see there......

Thanks, Ellen. Actually, we will be visiting people that we met last December in the States. I would contact them for advice, but I don't want them to be pressured into putting us up; they're expecting a new baby at around the time of our arrival.

Can't say I agree with Ellen on Turin, there are lot of things to see and do, it was for a brief time the capital of Italy and has the monuments and palazzi to show for it. If you have friends who live there they can certainly recommend places, we really liked the Cinema museum, and we also liked taking a long passeggiata under the blocks and blocks of covered sidewalks filled with stores and cafes. True that as in all of Italy, Monday morning is not the time to see things as most stores and museums are closed.

Sorry I can't help with the accomodations, but if you are at all into food and/or wine, you must stop at Eataly!
