Turin-What’s not to be missed?

My husband and I are visiting Turin for three days in mid-May. I’ve been researching and there are so many things to do. Hard to pick! We enjoy all kinds of things- museums, churches, parks, palaces, castles, cooking classes, wandering around, tours, etc. After Turin, we’ll be off to Asti, then Aosta, so we don’t need any side trips. We’re also on a moderate budget that has allowed us to stretch our vacation to three weeks. So do you have a favorite thing, place, experience in Turin? Please share! Thanks.

We really enjoyed our time in Torino. We enjoyed the Royal Palace and piazza, going to the cogwheel train to the Superga, and up the elevator in the Mole. We were there on the day the Egyptian museum was closed so can’t comment on it.

We were there during the annual MITO - fantastic event! I will mention it, even though you won’t be there in September, just for other readers of your post. Each September the cities of Milano and Torino become grand stages for MITO SettembreMusica, the international music festival brimming with concerts and performances, from classical to jazz, rock and pop, etc. The festival was free and the grand finale was more than a thousand of us packed in a piazza singing all types of Italian songs from free songbooks.

But, I did mention the MITO to give you the idea to search for festivals or concerts that could be occurring while you are there. Here’s one site as a starting point. https://www.eventbrite.com/d/italy--torino/music--events We find these types of events so fun to connect with the locals.

The Egyptian Museum is wonderful. Even though we had been to several good Egyptian museum departments, it blew us away. The displays with information on different themes are totally absorbing. The Royal Palace (Palazzo Reale) is excellent though it's overwhelming there's so much to see. We greatly enjoyed the Stupinigi (alleged Hunting Lodge) both as an expression of the stupendous Savoy wealth but also to learn about Piedmont Baroque architecture.

We really enjoyed the auto museum, and I’m not even a car person.

And I wish I had rented the headphones at the Cinema museum!

hey glomom
there is a car museum (museoauto.it) in turin. a collection of old cars from 8 countries, maybe some ooo's and ahhhh"s from your husband.
museoalfaromero.it a collection of old and new cars.
piedmont-foodandwine.com on the left side list intro, vinchio, nizza monferatto asti
lamialiguria.it gives you info about eastern and western italian riviera, plus under the home page: taste liguria "the 15 must try gelato shops in liguria" special for you haha
girlsgottadrink.com a blog with resources about the area
lots of things to do and not enough time! stop at a tourist info kiosk/shop probably in center and she what they have available.
slowitaly.com search piedmont and turin.
like others have said, i'd stay longer in a place then moving place to place, it's about a half day spent from getting up, packing, breakfast, checking out, getting to next area. check your arrival times, early checkin or luggage hold.
you guys are gonna have fun, doing your research helps a lot. if plan A don't work have plan B ready. keep address of place you're staying just in case you get lost.
aloha
