Hi all! My husband, our 18 month old daughter (at the time of travel), and I will be going to Italy (Turin or Milan) for 3 days in July after having spent 1.5 weeks in France. Which city would you suggest? After having spent all that time in France we would like it to be “Italian”. Grazie!
I think Roberto meant "robbing* the cradle"* there...and maybe the OP corrected the 18-month-old reference to point to the child...
Anyway, I'd almost always defer most questions on Italy to Roberto. In the case of Turin versus Milan, I'd guess that most foreign tourists would find more interest in Milan than Turin (at least more well-known-to-tourists things). But I agree that in July, I'd pick someplace cooler - that 18-month-old would be more comfortable out of the July heat.
I’m glad to see that no 18 month old is getting married.
Turin is underrated and probably an easier (closer) choice coming from France.
Both cities are scorching hot in July, therefore I would rather spend that time on a lake or on the Alpine areas nearby.
Thank you David and Roberto, our 1.5 weeks in France will be spent in the Alps (Annecy) visiting friends so we’d like to get a change of scenery. (And yes, I did change the post to make it clearer that the 18-month-old is our daughter!)
We are fond of Torino and it is so charming. Just a nice place to stroll, visit parks, not too many tourists. Lots of Savoy palaces and the Basilica of Superga reached via funicular as well as the National Museum of the Automobile and the best Egyptian Museum outside of Egypt (they say).
We really enjoyed our two days in Torino and wished we had stayed longer. We took the city bus and funicular up to see the Superga and toured the Royal Palace and art museum. The food was terrific, and we enjoyed walking around the historic sites and taking lots of photos of architecture. Nice views from the Mole Antonelliana, too.
Forgot to add that we took the train from Torino to Annecy, and it was easy connections, switching in Chambery. And, I’m groaning a bit when I type this; be sure to stop in at Pan & Gato bakery in Annecy - yum! Everything we tried each morning was amazing!!
