Need some helpwith my itinerary.
Going from Rome to Bologna, then to Pisa, then to Rapallo, then to Genoa then to Turin and finally to Malpensa airport.
I believe I can do this by train but not sure if the last leg (Turin to Malpensa) is possible. Would like to go from Turin to Malpensa early morning to make my plane at 10:00. Or do I have to spend night in Milan. Can anyone help?
Also any suggestions for shopping (food stuff, markets and eating) in Bologna, Genoa, and Turin?
Thank you.
Thanks for sharing .
Spending a night in Milan doesn't have to be a punishment, especially if you're in town when there's no convention/trade-show pressures on the room prices. Getting to the airport via the 'Centrale' train station shuttle/bus/'pullman' is already a 90-minute investment of precious early-morning time (there is no direct train to the airport).
I can only share foodstuff info for Bologna: http://www.fayeandsteve.com/Italy%20other%20locations/Bologna-deli-wind.jpg
lmy,
While it is feasible to travel from Turin to MXP in the early morning, it would probably be "safer" to spend the last night in Milan in case of any "unexpected delays". There's a departure from Torina Porta Susa at 06:00, arriving Milano Centrale at 06:50. From Milano Centrale, there are frequent departures of the Malpensa Express to the airport, with a travel time of 52M.
The Malpensa Express is a Regionale, so DON'T forget to validate your ticket prior to boarding the train on the day of travel, or you'll risk a hefty fine!
There is a bus that goes between Turin (Torino) and Malpensa (MXP). No need to go downtown Milan.
If you decide to stay at the airport, we stayed at the Sheraton. A traditionally sized room. I'd also recommend the new Moxy (a Marriott property). They make very good use of a small space.
Sheraton is at the international terminal, and Moxy is at the domestic. There's a free shuttle bus between the terminals.
The apertif was invented in Turin. We went to a 'bar' around 4:00 (1600) for a snack. I saw beer on the menu at 4 euros. On the next page, there was an apertif menu where beer was 6 euros. When I asked the waiter about the price difference, he explained that the more expensive menu came with lots of finger foods that we saw on the bar when we walked in. We were served a small plate and were very happy. Then, we were served another small plate, and another. Finally... there was a plate of sweets!! That was the best 2 extra euros I ever spent. You could make that a meal.
How about spending the day before the flight in Arona, on lake Maggiore. 30 min from Malpensa.
Thank you to everyone that replied. All are great and much appreciated. I think will spend night near Malpensa to be safe.
Again, thank you!
Roberto, Arona to Malpensa by train takes at least 1hour to Malpensa. That means that you have to leave at least 3 hours before your plane departs.
