Turin/Govone/Como in December 2021 help!

Hi everyone,

Finally getting a chance to sneak away for travel after 4yrs and being short notice, I need some advice please for 10day trip mid December (not Christmas).
I was thinking of flying in/out of Torino and stay a few days, go to the Christmas market in Govone then heading to como for RnR. (Or working that in reverse). I won’t have a car and will rely on trains.
-Is this doable?
-do train routes/availability change in winter?
-any part of Como recommended to be central for trains/walking about town?
-open to alternate suggestions

Thanks!

it sounds like you want to stay in the city of Como at the very south end of the lake rather than somewhere scenic further up the lake. Is that right?

I recommend checking the actual, historical, day-by-day weather statistics for Como on the website timeanddate.com to be sure you're OK with the sort of conditions you might encounter. For some reason there's no data for December 2020, so I've given you a link to December 2019. You should check additional years since weather varies a lot.

You can go to the Climate chart in Como's Wikipedia entry for precipitation data. December doesn't appear to be a horribly wet month, but it must be very gray/overcast, because there's an average of only 58 hours of sunshine the entire month. I find that depressing to contemplate. Como's not a place I'd want to visit in the winter, but I admit to being a very weather-focused traveler.

do train routes/availability change in winter?

I'm not sure I got what you mean with "train routes/availability", but the new winter schedules will be fully uploaded on trenitalia.com by December 12. You can use a date before for your planning.
