Turin

My husband and I are planning to take the train from Milan to Turin for a day trip.

Do you recommend visiting the auto museum? Do you recommend visiting the FIAT track on the rooftop of the Lingotto building?

I think my husband would very much enjoy both. I would love some feedback on your experiences and any tips.

Nearby restaurants for lunch that you would suggest?

Thank you

We spent a week in Turin last October. We were staying in a very central area and my spouse took a cab to the Automobile Museum as it is a bit of a distance from central Turin. There was only basic food there; I believe there is an Eataly not too far away that would have eating options. We loved Turin.

I hope you will go to the car museum, too! I have close to zero interest in cars, but I loved that museum —- the skill and imagination that goes into museums in Italy is amazing. For example, there is a full-size kitchen made out of car parts. Old movies of the early days of cars. Entire scenes of things like car-camping. Lots to look at.

That museum is great!

And so is the cinema museum, where you can have a supper view of the city and mountains beyond.

Turin is a great eating city!!
Eataly is near the car museum..it's HUGE!!

We thoroughly enjoyed the museum as well but I'm not sure how well it would work into a day trip. Admittedly we are not big day trippers but the museum is a bit out of the way with Eataly being the only other attraction nearby. Turin really deserves more time for a proper visit.

Agree with all of the above. Except the taxi. We took the subway to the museum. Once there, everything was close by, including the original Eataly. I'm sure you have your reasons for choosing to stay in Milan, but if it were me, I'd do it the other way around and day trip to Milan. Turin was a favorite for me.

Yes, I think it is worth a visit. I am not even a car person but thought the museum was very well done. We rented the audio guide at the museum and found that it added to the experience. I was surprised that even on a weekday it was fairly crowded but I think it was due to a number of school class trips that were happening that day. We took public transport from downtown Turin and it was very easy to find our way. We also combined it with lunch at Eataly which is about a 10 minute walk from the museum.

If I could add another Turin site that we enjoyed, it was the Lavazza Museum (https://www.lavazza.com/en/lavazza-museum/discover-the-museum.html). This was really fun -- covering manufacturing, agriculture, marketing, design and artwork and ending with coffee tasting. Here, we also did the audio guide and found it informative. I did see a few people with actual tour guides so perhaps that can be arranged with Lavazza. It is in downtown Turin but in a neighborhood slightly outside of the central district. But we walked to it, from our AirBnB it was about a 20 minute walk or so. Highly recommend and since returning home I've even been buying Lavazza coffee for my iced coffees in the summer.
