My wife and I are taking a holland America cruise in October which stops in Tunis tunisia. We normally avoid the ships shore excursions and I was thinking of taking a taxi to a city named sidi bou said on the coast. It looks to be a quaint village up on a hill overlooking the mediteranean, my question is wether we would be better off taking a taxi or using a private tour as I don't know how available taxis are to get back to ship.Any ideas on things to do in Tunis for 7 hours would be appreciated. Thanks, Steve
In addition to any replies you get here, be sure to go to Cruise Critic: To learn more about your ports of call (use the "Ports" tab on the upper right) To see what others have done in Tunis and other places you are going (use the "Boards" tab, then find Ports of Call, and use Africa and Middle East for Tunis) To sign up for your Roll Call (also on the Boards), where you can meet others on your sailing, see what private tours they are arranging and join them, or start a tour yourself and find others to join it.
Looks like you didn't get any answer to your question regarding transportation to and from Sidi bou Said. I hope you got there in any case for it is truly a magical, beautiful place. If you did get to go there, how did you manage it?
My daughter and I will be on a cruise stop in September and I really do want to go back to Sidi bou Said for a time longer than the land tour offered - for Carthage (been there twice already) plus Sidi bou Said - allowing but 1 3/4 hours there - with a hill that takes about 20 minutes to climb to reach the clifftop. Any reply that was helpful? I see none posted.
Do you realize you posted your question in the Italy section?
The Strait of Sicily is less than a hundred miles wide.
