TuIfly Airline Carry On Concerns, Will They Weigh My Bag?

I'm using Rick's suggested backpack but only half full it weighs more than the allowed 6kg this airline suggests is the maximum allowed.

Two questions:
1) do they tend to weigh the carry on?
2) if they do weigh and declare it over weight, can i pay a fee to still carry it on or will they charge me AND make me check it under the plane?

I had never heard of TUI Fly until now.

Their website is murky about overweight carry on. They definitely will charge extra, but what they do with the "offending" item is unclear

Have you contacted their customer service?

If they follow the trends of other European budget airlines: Yes, they very well may weigh your carry-on. If it is overweight, you would have to check it. It looks like they allow a free checked bag so I don't think they would make you pay a fee. But best to call customer service to see the policy on this.

It's annoying that airlines care how much your carry-on weighs, but not how much the passenger weighs! It may be a bit uncomfortable and look strange, but in a pinch, slip into the bathroom and put on multiple articles of your heaviest clothing items. For instance, wear your trench coat over your heaviest skirt or dress, wear your jeans under the dress, wear your hiking boots, and stuff your heaviest personal items into your pockets. If nothing else, this will make for a funny story, so be sure to have your picture taken while thusly dressed! Alternately, if you have a travel companion, share the load with him or her.
Good luck!

Six kg is a hard packing goal to meet, but if you achieve it, you'll probably enjoy it (and have plenty of space in your bag for souvenirs on the way home). Airlines with the low carry-on weight allowances are exactly those that might weigh the bag. If you don't have a specific need to avoid checking it, then I would check it.

We are flying TUI in July - I have been researching their hand baggage policies, and from what I have found, the weight limit is 10kg, not 6. From their website:

Each passenger over the age of 2 years old is allowed to carry 1 piece of hand baggage up to 10 kg. The maximum dimensions of the hand baggage are 55 x 40 x 20cm, but the total dimensions may never exceed 115cm. On account of the limited space available, it is possible that not all large hand-baggage items (55 x 40 x 20cm) can be transported in the cabin; the remaining items will be transported free of charge in the hold. Hand baggage exceeding these dimensions and/or this weight will be refused at the boarding gate. Sometimes the exceeding amount of hand baggage can be transported in the baggage compartment, upon payment of a supplement.

10kg would be a dream now that I've planned for 6kg!

here's what I found on their website, not sure why we are finding different things?
With TUI fly, the maximum weight for free hand baggage is 6 kg (55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm); passengers are entitled to free carriage of 1 item of hand baggage per person plus notebook. Please stow any light items – such as coats or small bags – in the overhead compartments above your seat. Please note that heavy items have to be stowed under the seat in front of you

that was found on tUIfly.com under service, hand baggage.

I looked at their website and was a bit confused.

It seems it depends on what fare class one buys, at least partially, determines what your baggage and carry on allowances are

The 10kg may apply to a higher fare class, not their "bargain basement" fare.

Good luck,.... I would rather work a sudoku puzzle than try to figure out what I saw on the website
